I used a combination of layer masks, curves, brightness/contrast, and overlaying colors. It was too odd for me to explain, and I use different methods in all of my pictures for background adjustment, I didn't think it would help much. P:
Basically use dark masks/painting around the outside, and white on the inside. x]
Wow, I love this! I must try my hand at these manipultation thingies, though I know Im going to fail hard core! XD
But if I may say one thing, and don't take it bad. Its just a pointer. The mane... I looks a little cartoony(?) I think that it glowed a little to much, unless that was the effect you were going for. That or the white was just to bright in comparison to the background, the horse ect.
And yeah, the mane and tail.... I kinda agree on the cartoonish front, but, it is a character. When the art trade was proposed, :devhsladar: only showed me one ref, and they seemed to glow then too... so I went with glowing. P: hahaa

Wow, this is so cool! Great walkthrough, and very nice piece! This is really going to help me out: I just started getting into photomanipulations myself, and since I'm self-taught in PS... well, you get it.
